AN INTRODUCTION

We are pleased to have this opportunity to introduce ourselves. KIM AND CHO, the first patent and trademark law office established in the Republic of Korea, files and prosecutes applications for patents, utility models, designs, and trademarks on behalf of a number of substantial foreign clients. Originally founded by the late Eui-chang Kim, an attorney-at-law as well as a patent attorney, and his esteemed colleague, the late Sun-hwang Cho, an accomplished patent attorney, the firm is now headed by Myung-koo Kang, a patent attorney and
chemical engineer, who has overseen the firm's operations for nearly four decades.
Since the beginning, the offices of KIM AND CHO have been set in the heart of Seoul, a steadfast example for all other patent and trademark law firms to follow. Originally situated at the junction of Main Street and King Sejong Avenue, along the entranceway to the Royal Palace and its grand gate, known as Kwanghwamun, the facilities sat among the original buildings of the early days of the Republic. Founder Kim, a minister within the first administration, saw the need for representation in the field of industrial property, particularly for foreign applicants interested in the economy of a new democracy. The present-day organization occupies the top floor of the Royal Building, neighboring the original site and overlooking the Presidential Mansion erected on the hill behind the palace grounds, as part of a modern urban center among the landmarks of yesteryear. Likewise, a steady presence of representation has been maintained, following the best traditions of service and technological aptitude.

The firm comprises efficient technical and administrative staff, possessing the necessary knowledge and experience to handle all types of applications and to faithfully obtain registrations. The Patent Department includes a mechanical engineering team, an electronics/electrical engineering team, a chemicals team, and a biotechnology team, and encompasses personnel handling applications for designs and utility models as well. Patent and trademark searches and monitoring are performed by capable support staff. Of particular note is the Trademark Department, upon which multinational companies have come to depend on its quality and efficiency of service, directly attributable to an accumulation of experience spanning a half century.

Whether the client's needs are patent and trademark applications, oppositions, prosecution and trials, or licensing and license negotiation, we recognize that high-quality and timely service are essential for success. With this motto in mind, clients can be assured that all work entrusted to us will receive vigilant and careful attention based on the long-standing customs technological awareness of KIM AND CHO
